By subscribing to a calendar URL in Google Calendar, you can keep track of external events, such as venue bookings or trainer schedules, seamlessly alongside your personal calendar. Any updates to the external calendar will automatically appear in your Google Calendar without further action needed.

Step 1: Open Google Calendar

  • Open your preferred web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

  • Go to https://calendar.google.com.

  • Sign in with your Google account if you aren’t already logged in.

Step 2: Locate “Other calendars” on the Left Sidebar

  • On the left-hand side of the Google Calendar interface, you will see a section labeled “Other calendars”.

  • This section is usually below your list of calendars, such as your primary calendar and any other calendars you own or have subscribed to.

Step 3: Click the Plus (“+”) Icon Next to “Other calendars”

  • Next to the “Other calendars” label, you will find a plus sign (+) or a button that says “Add other calendars”.

  • Click this plus (+) icon to open a menu with options to add a calendar.

Step 4: Select “From URL” from the Dropdown Menu

  • In the dropdown menu that appears, select “From URL”.

  • This option allows you to subscribe to a calendar using a public calendar URL, typically in .ics format.

Step 5: Paste the Calendar URL

  • A text field will appear labeled something like “URL of calendar”.

  • Paste the full URL of the calendar you want to subscribe to in this field.

    • The URL usually ends with .ics (iCalendar format).

    • Make sure the URL is correct and publicly accessible (some calendars require sharing permissions).

Step 6: Click the “Add Calendar” Button

  • After pasting the URL, click the “Add calendar” button below the text field.

  • Google Calendar will attempt to subscribe to the calendar and add it to your list of calendars.

Step 7: Wait for the Calendar to Appear

  • The subscribed calendar will now appear under the “Other calendars” section in the left sidebar.

  • The events from that calendar will automatically sync and show up alongside your other calendars.

  • Syncing usually happens automatically and updates when the original calendar is updated by its owner.

Step 8: Customize the Calendar Display (Optional)

  • You can click on the calendar name under “Other calendars” to toggle its visibility on or off.

  • You can also click the three dots next to the calendar name to change its color or notification settings.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If the calendar does not appear, double-check the URL for typos or sharing permissions.

  • Some calendars require the owner to make them public before they can be subscribed to.

  • Refresh the page or try logging out and back in if the calendar doesn’t show immediately.
